What Is Metabolism And How Do Diets Affect it?

I think that many of you have heard of metabolism, but don’t know exactly what it is. I’ll try to avoid scientific terms and will explain it in a simple way.

Metabolism is a process in a human organism which helps convert the fuel in the food you consume into energy. Basically, it is what allows you to use the food you consume as energy for your body to operate on. Obviously, metabolism is super important, and is one of the essential processes in our body.

However, metabolism isn’t the same for everyone. One person’s metabolism can be slower or faster than the others, and it’s totally normal. The thing is, metabolism affects fat loss. Metabolism is usually higher at those who have lower body fat and a bigger amount of muscle and when one goes on a diet, metabolism changes.

When someone goes on a low-carb diet, he/she sees great results, but after some time the weight loss stops. Why exactly? Because metabolism slows down due to the lack of carbs or the very low amount of them. That’s the reason I advise you to have a cheat meal/have some normal carb days if you go on a low carb diet. As time goes and your fat level drops, your metabolism will become faster, the same with muscles, as they increase, your organism improves (unless you have a very low amount of carbs).

In my personal opinion, a low carb diet’s main cons are that your weight loss slows down after some time (but the case is similar with any other diet) and it’s really hard to follow if a person loves carbs (like me). This is why I always advise to find the eating lifestyle that fits YOU, the exercise / workout routine that YOU like, because that’s when you’ll reach real results while not suffering during the process.

As always, Bodybeasts :) !
